Materne Maetz


Materne Maetz is an agricultural economist who graduated from the Institut National Agronomique de Paris-Grignon. He worked for more than 30 years in international cooperation, mostly with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the field of food and agriculture, of which around 15 years in Africa (Tunisia, Niger and Ghana) and in Asia (Nepal and India).  He has direct experience in around 30 countries :


    1. in Africa (Angola, Bénin, Cameroon, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa,Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia and Zambia);

    2. in Asia (Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Lao PDR, Nepal, The Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam);

    3. in Europe (France, Italy and Czech Republic);

    4. in Latin America (Argentina).


His main fields of experience include:


    1. Food and agricultural policy analysis, formulation and monitoring; 

    2. Capacity development for high level policy decision makers and analysts in the field of food and agriculture; 

    3. Project and programme formulation, monitoring and evaluation;

    4. Change and innovation management in public organisations (policy process, agricultural sector programmes, decentralisation and institutional reform of ministries, institutional change in an international organisation);

    5. Programme and human resources management;

    6. Analysis and diagnosis of agrifood systems.


Since 2014, he has also published several novels.
